He Did What?

When I was pregnant with Jackson our gender ultrasound was scheduled around Easter time. I'm not going to lie, I was totally dreaming of having a little girl. This probably had a lot to do with the fact that everywhere you looked beautiful little Easter dresses that looked sweet as candy were being displayed.

Then we found out we were having a boy. I was in shock, first of all because I just knew that I was having a girl, but mostly because I didn't know the first thing about boys, especially considering that I came from a family with 2 girls, and that my only 2 boy cousins were much younger than me. So I grew up knowing the joys of Barbie, Rainbow Brite, and Strawberry Shortcake. I knew nothing about what boys liked, and goodness knows, I wasn't prepared for the amount of burping and pooting and booty jokes that I've heard since I've acquired a second male in my house.

But I've learned much in my 3 1/2 years of parenting Jackson: Boys are fun. Boys are wild. Boys are boys!

And our boy is growing up.

Lately he's started shutting the bathroom door when he's using the bathroom. He'll say that he needs his privacy.

May I remind you that he's only three.

Yesterday he shut the door and when he didn't emerge for a few minutes I went in to check on him. I found him standing on top of the bathroom counter washing the mirrors for me with his hands.

I guess you could say he was being helpful.

Then, this morning he went into the bathroom, shut the door and didn't come back out. All of a sudden Jeremy and I hear him crying uncontrollably. My first thoughts were that he had fallen from the counter top. The truth was much different.

We both run into the bathroom and see Jackson standing there with tears pouring down his cheeks. His shirt is wet, and between sobs we figured out what had happened.

Apparently Jackson decided that he needed to find out what it was like to stick his hand in the toilet. And apparently the water was much colder than he was expecting.

So Jackson was really upset because of how cold he was, and the fact that he was now going to have to emerge from the bathroom in a wet shirt wasn't lost on him, so he started wailing.

We run in and pull the wet clothes off of him and he's standing there crying when I just had to do it. I had to ask him what he was doing (nicely of course).

His response: "I just put my hand in the toilet. (Insert Sob.) It was an accident. But it was really on purpose!"

I'm thinking the bathroom door will remain open indefinitely to try to halt any future on purpose accidents!

There is something about the bathroom that fascinates children. My boys have to ask permission now to use the bathroom in the basement, because they played in there so much! It's like a giant laboratory!

ARRRRRRGGGGGHHH!!! OMGoogle! My Luke is fascinated with all things bathroom also, but he has never ventured to take the plunge into the potty.

Oh, I die.

This makes my inner/outer germaphobe have to go wash right now.

(p.s. He's going to be SO GLAD you documented all this cool stuff when he gets old enough to date.)

Oh my word! The hand in the potty thing is too funny. (my first thought... Aaaaack!) We've never had that. I guess that goes along with the boy 'thing',huh?!

Well, I can't say that you did the same, but I do recall you telling me that you and Kellyn jumped off the refrigerator when we were not home. Standing on the bathroom sink ... next ... jumping off the refrigerator. Please don't give him any ideas!!!

I love having a boy too. Even in all of their grossness they are so much and I hear there's a lot less drama too!

Ew, ew, ew, ew! :) But hilarious. I get the "On accident on purpose" explanation a lot, too.
