Putting The Girls In Their Place

I went bra shopping Sunday afternoon and as usual left feeling frustrated and ill at the people that make and design bras. I'm rather blessed on top, to the point that my cups runneth over, and for as long as I can remember bra shopping has been a stressful, and occasionally tear-inducing event. It seems that I'm always stuck in "Old Lady Braland" where the only bras are white, black and beige, but I'm going past rack after rack (pun totally intended) in "I'm a Perky Size B Cupville" where bras are found in a rainbow of colors, fabrics and cuteness, and I hate that. It drives me crazy to see how many bra designers don't make sizes larger than a C cup, despite the fact that there is a huge (no pun intended) market for cute bras for blessed girls. I'm tired of getting stuck trying on medieval inspired bras with itchy fabric, 2 inch wide straps, and 5 hooks in a "minimizer" design, just so I can keep the girls in place. So, speaking for busty girls everywhere, here's the deal...

I don't want to wear a neon colored bra that is going to show designs through my clothes, although a few color choices would be nice...

I don't want a bra that has enough padding to stand up on it's own. If I'm shopping for a DD bra, I'm pretty sure I don't need any extra padding up top. True story; I tried a bra on once that was so padded that when I looked down my chin disappeared into my cleavage. I'm all for support, but you can have too much of a good thing.

Ironically enough, having too much of a good thing is what has gotten me into this dilemma...

I don't want a bra that's sold in a box, even if it can provide 18 hours of comfort...

And I especially don't want a bra that makes me look like I'm smuggling torpedoes.

And what's up with the lines that come across the front of the bra. There is no way to hide that under a shirt. Can you say, seamless?

Basically, I want a beige, seamless, underwire bra with less than 3 hooks, that makes me look like Heidi Klum, minus the wings and rhinestones, for less than $30.

Is that too much to ask?

Oh my goodness...I know the feeling!! I HATE HATE HATE bra-shopping for those exact reasons. What's the deal? Just because we are "well endowed", we can't have cute & sexy & comfortable all at the same time?

Exactly!!! Last time I went bra shopping, I figured out that 'they' have decided I'm now a D instead of a C and yet 'they' think I need padding. I totally hear ya.. I can barely see if I try to wear one of those padded bras. My ladies are padded enough, thankyouverymuch! (although I must say I like a tad bit of strategic padding..nobody needs to know when I'm cold!) I tried on bras at "Vicki's place" (ahem) and she thinks I should pay $50 for ONE bra. I think that's her big secret..over priced bras!!! I cannot fathom paying 150 for 3 bras. And yes, I don't want to put somebody's eye out with one of my girls either. I soo hear ya. I finally found a bra at TARGET that fits me. I actually read in Consumer Reports that they have some good bras. I have no clue how they test 'em though..moving on! They weren't as comfy up front as Vicki's bras, but they didn't cost $50 either. Good luck! I totally feel for ya in your search!

When you find that bra, will you let me know???? I'm so tired of special ordering my bras from an old lady catalog.

(Although I've been able to find pretty bras at Lane Bryant, but they're $$$$$$$!)

Tee Hee!! I feel your pain. And best of luck in your searches...

But may I suggest a real bra fitting shop... they really had pretty stuff - for all sizes. You'll pay for it, but it's been worth it.

Of course, now I need about three sizes bigger, but I'm not going back yet, because by the time this kid comes out, I'll probably need five sizes bigger.

OMG, so glad I discovered your blog, so funny. So, maybe a little embarrassing to comment on a blog post about bras, but strangely I have a *bit* of experience with bras, and no I'm not being a perfect. Just know that at my research and development company right now we are working with one of the world's most famous bra companies to actually make bras comfortable.

It's actually been pretty telling discussing bras with them. They said for the history of the bra, there has actually been very little research and development. It's been all about look or feel, but never true functionality mixed with the two. Be excited cause it's gonna be awesome.

Oh, and I must also admit that I hate bro shopping. You think you ladies have it hard with bras, try shopping for something that is almost non-existent!

I just came across your blog and wondered if you'd tried Lane Bryant. Although, it's a plus size store, they sell a variety of sizes of bras, and I have been able to find really pretty ones as well. They will fit you if needed, and often have a great sale (buy one get one free or half off). As far as padding, these bras do have it, but its not obvious and I think a little is a good thing for some "coverage."

Try Intimacy! http://www.myintimacy.com/ And if you don't have one near you, try Nordstrom. I'm an F cup and both of these stores are where I am able to find great bras.
