The Countdown To St. Thomas Has Begun!!

One month from today Jeremy and I will be hitting the beaches in beautiful Charlotte Amalie in St. Thomas, USVI. We are so excited! I've been busy researching restaurants, excursions, shopping and tours, and so far all we've really narrowed down is a full day snorkel excursion to the National Park in St. John. We will have a light breakfast on the 65 foot sloop, snorkel at Honeymoon Beach, board the boat and have lunch and then head to Christmas Cove before heading back to the marina. We're sure that we will be whopped after snorkeling all day, but we are so excited.

Other than that little trip that we've planned, we are just looking forward to being able to hang out on a beach without worrying about sand pails and diapers, sleep late, and enjoy some great food and not be in a hurry for a change! We are definitely looking forward to taking off our watches and adopting "Island time."

Now if I can just keep my momentum trying to work out and manage to get a little bit of sun so I don't blind people, I'll be ready to go!

My Missionary, Jackson!

Jackson is heading out on his first mission trip today with his Tata! He will be going with a group of RA's and GA's from our church to Anniston, AL to do mission work at the Alabama Children's home and Calhoun Baptist Association. He is so excited, and this trip is all he has talked about for weeks! Jackson wasn't excited for spring break because he got to miss school; he was excited for spring break because he got to go on a mission trip! He was even telling his dental hygienist at his appointment the other day that he was going to go on a mission trip to help tell people about Jesus. How sweet is that!!

The group leaves our church this morning at 9 and will stay overnight and return late tomorrow afternoon. Please pray that they have a safe trip, and that Jackson has a wonderful time showing others the love of Jesus! I'm sure going to miss my big boy tonight, but I'm so proud of him and his sweet heart!

Jackson's First Sleep Over!

Jackson had his first spend the night at our house on Saturday night with his buddy, John Michael. Saturday was JM's birthday and the boys had such a good time. We ate hotdogs and popcorn, watched Hotel Transylvania and Wreckit Ralph, and played with play dough. Anderson had a blast playing with the big boys, even though the party wasn't for him! He even joined in on taking a silly picture before the two big boys made me put the camera up! The boys had a great time playing before finally going to bed a little after 10:00. The plan was for JM to go to church with us on Sunday morning, but Jackson woke up at 5 and threw up. It certainly wasn't the way we wanted Jackson's first spend the night to end, but he had a good time anyways. Certainly the first of many sleep overs to come!

And Jackson and Anderson wanted to give their own message to Cameron and say,
"Happy Birthday Cam-Cam!"

So from all of us in Alabama, Happy Birthday, Cameron!!!!

My Sunday Night Snake Adventure

Last night Jeremy had headed to church to pick up Jackson from AWANA while I stayed at home with Anderson. Anderson and I cuddled for awhile and then I put him to bed. I let Macy outside for a minute and then I went back to my bedroom to get my pajamas on. I was in my bathroom when I heard Macy start barking hysterically. I ran to the backdoor to tell her to hush when I saw that she was staring at Anderson playset intently. I knew something was underneath based on her bark, but I was horrified when I saw her lunge under the playset and pull out a snake! I was immediately covered in chills from head to toe from fear that the snake in her mouth was poisonous. I ran back into my bedroom to throw on some shorts and then went back into the backyard to grab our shovel from the shed.

Macy was going nuts carrying the snake around the backyard, and it was wiggling like an earthworm in her mouth. I still get the heebie jeebies thinking about it. I finally chased Macy and the snake around the backyard enough and Macy dropped the snake. I started attacking the ground like a maniac with that shovel! As if the snake wasn't enough, when I started stabbing the ground a giant yard spider came up out of the grass like something out of the apocalypse! I was dying I tell you!!!

I finally thought I had done enough damage to the snake and it wasn't moving anymore. I covered the snake up with the shovel and then dragged Macy back into the house. The phone was ringing off the hook and I ran inside to get it. It was Jeremy, wondering why in the world I hadn't been answering the phone. Our  conversation went something like this:

Amy: "HELLOOOOO."
Jeremy: "Why have you not been-"
Amy: "OMG!!! I JUST KILLED A SNAKE IN THE BACKYARD!!! I'M DYING. I'M DYING-"
Jeremy: "Hold on a second. You killed a snake?"
Amy: "OMG! I JUST KILLED A SNAKE THAT MACY CAUGHT IN THE BACKYARD! IT WAS AWFUL. I THINK I'M GONNA BE SICK."
Jeremy: "Calm down, Amy. I'll be home in a minute and will take care of it."
Amy: "OMG! I'M DYING."

When Jeremy got home he went out to the backyard and he and Jackson checked out my little victim. He was bigger than Jeremy thought he would be, probably around a foot long, and much to my disgust, still wiggling around. It was horrific to me. Jackson just told Jeremy to chop his head off! Jeremy scooped him up with the shovel, and I quickly warned him that if he so much as even pretended to put that snake in my direction that it would be grounds for divorce. Ever the wise man, Jeremy disposed of the snake and I went inside to wash off the horror of the evening.

Even this morning, whenever I think about that snake I get cold chills on my entire body. I think I'm gonna need therapy.

Well, I need therapy and a weekend for Jeremy to scour the backyard to make sure that this little hand puppet of the devil doesn't have any friends.

Beware The Ides Of March

On this day, the 15th of March, I say, "Beware the Ides of March" because this week has already been rough enough to do any sane person in. May this day have mercy on me.

The end.

(Not quite as wordy as William Shakespeare, but much easier to understand).

Grass Stains and PTSD

(AKA "The Post In Which Amy Confesses That Her Mind Is An Uncontrollable Beast And Cannot Be Turned Off No Matter How Much Amy Tries)

This past Saturday Jackson had baseball practice and came home with a pretty nice grass stain on the knee of his baseball pants. Try as I might, I cannot get that stain out. I hate stains on clothes and I guess it's traumatized me more than I thought, because apparently I've developed GSPTSD (Grass Stain Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).

Last night Jackson had baseball practice again and despite the fact that he came home with no new grass stains on his pants, grass and grass stains were all I dreamed about last night.

Grass stains on brand new clothes
Grass stains on old clothes
Soft, green grass
Crunchy, brown grass
Mowing grass
Itching because of grass
Bugs in grass
The smell of grass
Grass scented Scentsy wax
Running in grass
Playing in grass

I woke up and told Jeremy that I was sleeping horribly because I can't quit thinking about grass and grass stains. His reply, "You need help."

The problem is I know, but I doubt there is one doctor out there capable of treating GSPTSD. It's a very new disorder from what I gather.

P.S. Now that I look at the word "grass" typed out so many times, I think that "grass" looks like a very funny word. Just thought you might like to know.

Finally 50 Pounds!!!

It took 6 years, 6 months, 3 weeks, and 3 days, or a grand total of 2401 days for anyone keeping track, and Jackson finally hit the 50 pound mark on the scales!!! This string bean of ours has been in size 6 jeans for awhile now, not for his tummy, but his height. We have to buy the adjustable waist jeans and cinch them up so they don't fall off, but in the size 5 jeans he looked like he was ready for a flood.

He's growing like a weed right now, and it seems like he's in constant motion. With the addition of baseball and 2 1/2 hour practices a couple of times a week, it's going to be all I can do to keep the pounds on him. After he got on the scale and saw the big 5-0, he was so excited and asked me, "Mama, do you weigh 50 pounds too?!?" My answer, "Yep, sweetie, your Mama definitely weighs 50 pounds!"

It's the truth, right? I weigh every bit of 50 pounds (and then some!).

St. Thomas Advice Needed!

Last year I threw it out that we needed Las Vegas and Disney World advice and y'all came through with flying colors. This time I need St. Thomas advice from someone who has been there before. Here's the basics:
  • Our flight will land on a Monday around 3:45 Atlantic time.
  • We are staying at Marriot's Frenchman's Reef and Morningstar Resort in Charlotte Amalie.
  • We have a company reception that Monday night.
  • Tuesday is a free day.
  • Wednesday is a company brunch, and Wednesday afternoon is wide open.
  • Thursday is wide open.
  • We fly home on Friday around lunch.
Here's what I have so far:
  • We will probably not rent a car because they drive on the left side of the road and dying on my vacation because we drove on the wrong side of the road doesn't sound like my idea of tropical fun.
  • Taxi's are very expensive.
  • The hotel restaurants are very expensive.
  • We are taking an all-day snorkel excursion to St. John.
That's it. We need help with everything else. Do we venture into town? Stay at the resort? Walk the 99 steps? Go to Paradise Point? Jeremy doesn't want this to be a go, go, go vacation, and I don't want this to be a "I went to St. Thomas and did nothing" vacation. We just need a happy medium so that we both have a great time and come back home a little tanner and a lot more refreshed.

So if you've ever been to St. Thomas, whether on a cruise or stayed on the island, any advice is greatly appreciated!!

Robed

Jackson has been pestering me for a robe for weeks now. I have no idea where he got the idea of a robe from, but every time we go anywhere, he's asking me to get him a robe.

Thus far, I hadn't gotten him one because a) it's almost spring, and I didn't think it would get worn much and b) I was fairly certain that it would lose the luster after just a little bit, and it would be one more thing that I end up picking up off the floor time and time again.

Well, Jackson stayed at my mom's house on Saturday night and Sunday morning at church I found out that Mom had gone out and bought him his very own robe. He proudly modeling it for me after church, and he hasn't quit wearing it since. He's even going to sleep in it, which proves hilarious for Jeremy to try to get it off of him when Jackson is dead to the world so he doesn't sweat all night long.

He even wore it to school today. Granted, it was Pajama Day for Dr. Seuss week, but none-the-less, he wore his robe to school. One thing's for sure....he sure does look cute in his robe, and I'm glad my Mom went with the impractical, because the smile on his face is worth it!

The gym will hate me this week.

Maybe it’s just that I will hate the gym.

I’ve had a migraine since Saturday. Loads of fun.

It’s freezing outside.

Baseball practice has begun with a vengeance.

It’s Monday and I’m already tired.
