Spring Break has Sprung!

So it's Spring Break this week around here, and y'all, let me just say that Jackson is having the time of his life. He will be moving from his daycare to the YMCA this summer for childcare, and we signed him up to attend this week. He has played and played and played. When I picked him up on Monday afternoon, he jumped into the van and said, "I love you Mom. I need a shower. Bad. And I'm so tired!" And he was right...he did need a shower. Bad. And he was tired! LOL.

Tuesday he went to the McWane Center in Birmingham with my dad and had a super fun day. They played and did all the sciency stuff, and he came home exhausted.

Wednesday he went on a field trip with the Y to the zoo and he told me that he fell asleep on the bus on the way to and from the zoo.

At no point this week has he given us any trouble for bedtime.

The lesson you can take from this....spring break fun = one tired boy!

Pretty Much A Perfect Weekend!

I think this goes down as one of the most wonderful weekends we have had in a long time. Here's a little recap for all 3 of you that still count yourself as Wade's World readers:

Friday: Got off work a couple of hours early and finished getting Jeremy and Jackson packed to go to RA Congress and campout on Friday night. After we saw them off, Anderson and I went to Moe's (his choice!) for dinner, and then headed home to watch Frozen again. We went to bed early which was wonderful for this Mama who was worn slap out from a long week during tax season!

Saturday: Anderson woke me up at 5:30 saying he was hungry. I begged, pleaded and bribed him to go back to sleep, but it was fruitless. We were up and at 'em and ready for the day when my mom called to see if we wanted to go to the zoo with them. We got ready and headed to Montgomery, and spent the morning at the zoo with Mom, Dad, and Luke. We had a blast seeing the "emimals" and enjoying the sunshine. We ate lunch at then headed home for a nap.

Saturday afternoon: The nap never ended up working as planned because Anderson fell asleep in the car on the way home from the zoo. Jeremy and Jackson got home around noon, and Jackson and I took a 20 minute nap before heading to his practice baseball game. Jackson did really good at the game, and we enjoyed frozen yogurt before heading home to grill hamburgers.

Saturday evening: Jackson had the idea for us to eat lunch in the backyard Saturday night and it was so enjoyable. Perfect temps, good food, and so relaxing. Such a nice end to a fun day

Sunday: Rainy start to the day, but I got the boys to church and then we headed over to Mom and Dad's house for lunch. After a short nap, I got the boys home and I headed out to go see Divergent with my friend Crystal. Such a good movie! After the movie I did some solo grocery shopping and then got home in time to help get Anderson to bed and then I got to play Candy Crush for a few rounds.

All in all, a wonderful weekend. Couldn't have asked for more!

How was your weekend?!?

The Week Thus Far

  • I survived my first tax deadline yesterday. It was crazy busy, but I managed. I crashed as soon as I got home last night, but I survived the day and that was all that mattered.
  • Anderson went to school yesterday and came home wearing the same outfit! In big boy underwear! I'm so excited!!!! This Mama is ready to be done with diapers.
  • I have steak, baked potatoes and corn in the crockpot for supper tonight. Gotta love a meal ready to eat when you get home!
  • I'm seriously needing tips for Aruba. If you've been, please help a girl out!
  • Is it Friday yet?!?
Y'all have a great day!

My Weekend Was Shortened By An Hour

  • Let me go on the record to say that I despise Daylight Savings time. I really don't understand who we think we are fooling by setting our clocks forward by an hour. Who came up with that? Last time I checked Mother Nature didn't use a clock. I'm smart enough to figure out that in the spring/summer the days are longer and in the fall/winter the days are shorter without having to lose an hour of sleep and screw up my kids sleeping schedules.
  • Speaking of losing an hour of sleep, I took a glorious 2 1/2 hour nap on Sunday afternoon to make up for Daylight Savings time. It naps could have a Top 10, that one would have made it. I woke up refreshed and rested, and still slept good last night. Win/Win.
  • Saturday was packed with birthday parties and fun. I booked it from one birthday party with Jackson to another party with Anderson, and then headed to my friend Meredith's house for a video chat session for our Memory Makin' Moms page. So.Much.Fun.
  • I got my nails painted by Meredith for a tutorial for Meredith for pinterest. My nails are inspired by the movie Frozen, and they are amazing!!! As soon as she posts the tutorail, I'll share the link. They are incredible!
  • It's a crazy busy week at work with tax deadlines come up on Friday, so I may be sparse for a few days. I''ll be back soon, I promise!
Have a great day!

A Moment That Started With A Stick

The ballpark where Jackson plays baseball has a long winding creek that runs next to the parking lot. There is a bridge that crosses the creek, and right under the bridge there are lots of big rocks that form a waterfall in the creek. In Jackson’s mind the creek is his own version of a raging rapids, but in reality, it’s a slow moving, little creek, much more comparable to a lazy river at a water park than a raging rapids, but who am I to dash the imagination of a little boy?!?

We went to the batting cages on Saturday for Jackson to try out his new bat. On our way back to the car I found a long stick, perfect for breaking tiny pieces off, and Jackson and I headed to the creek to have a race with our sticks. On the count of “3” we threw our sticks into the water and Jackson ran on ahead to the bridge so he could watch his sticks go through the rapids. I walked alongside the sticks as they navigated the water, and kept Jackson updated on their progress. They were moving very fast at first, and then headed into a slower stretch of water where they slowed down greatly. I was able to walk over to the bridge and stood with Jackson as we waited for our sticks to cross under us, and then head through the rapids. We sat there for a minute or so before the sticks made it, and then cheered as they drifted through the rough waters and then floated away until we couldn’t see them anymore.

As we were walking away I said to Jackson, “Thank you for racing sticks with me.” He reached over and grabbed my hand as we crossed the bridge and said, “You’re welcome, Mama. Any time!”

It was at that moment that I realized I need to add more time in my life for racing sticks, and less for racing to do all the other pointless stuff. Just like our sticks, the days are floating away faster than I realize, and before long my chance to do silly stuff like that will be gone and my man-child will be too big for holding his Mama’s hand.

So until then…I plan on racing sticks and throwing rocks into the creek every time we go to the ball park. I’m not letting these silly days of childhood with him float past me any longer.
