Weekly Random

·         BP got scary high on Monday, and I ended up in the ER for 6 hours late Monday evening. My highest reading was 219/131, and I had a horrible headache. After several hours they got my bp down, but we’ve been playing with it all week trying to get it in control. I am, however, still alive and well, just searching for some answers.

·         Jackson had his first science project yesterday, and I think he nailed it. We did a Water Cycle poster, and I can only say that he definitely deserves and A+. He came up with the design, and did most of the cutting, and all of the glueing. I was pleased!

·         Anderson can now say, “Wal-mart.” Clearly we are raising him well.

·         I sat in on my first tax conference yesterday. For a layperson like myself, wowsers….there are a lot of tax phrases out there!

·         Looking forward to a weekend of doing nothing. After this stressful week, I need it!

The Week Thus Far

Busy. Busy. Busy.

Tax season is off to a roaring start, and work is crazy busy. Two of us actually prepared tax papers for clients at the end of last week, and in the course of a day and a half, we went through more than 12 boxes of paper. In case you ever wondered, that is 120 reams, which amounts to more than 60,000 pieces of paper. Insane.

I’m absolutely loving my job, I just might be a little more absent than usual.

In kid related news, Jackson has lost 2 teeth this week, made A/B Honor Roll, and finished his list of 100 books for second grade, so the 7 year old has had a pretty sweet week. The 2 year old has been busy throwing tantrums and looking cute. Nothing out of the norm for him!

Y’all take care, and I’ll be back soon!

The Gloves Are Coming Off. And On. And Off. And On…

Anderson has a new found obsession with gloves. Not mittens, mind you, because that would make life easier around here, but regular five fingered gloves. He found a pair of Jackson’s old gloves and has taken to wearing them around the house non-stop since his discovery. Never mind the fact that he has his own toddler sized gloves, he only want to wear Jackson’s gloves.

This wouldn’t create much of a problem unless you’ve ever tried to put toddler sized fingers into kid sized gloves. He ends up having two fingers crammed into one finger hole, and they NEVER go on correctly. In his two year old mind, the world is coming to a screeching halt when this happens. So he proceeds to rip off the gloves roughly 2.5 seconds after it took us 2 minutes to put them on, and then falls into a big ole heap of tantrum in the floor because the gloves are off.

Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

Finally Jeremy and I both had enough of this cycle. We’ve taken to giving him a warning as we are putting the gloves on…”If you take your gloves off, we aren’t putting them back on.” So when he does take them off, we carry on business as usual.

I guess you could say that Mommy and Daddy are taking their gloves off and washing their hands of the situation. It’s not pretty, but no one said parenting a two year old was easy…

It's All Coming Back To Me Now....

Last night Jeremy and Anderson were tossing a white nerf ball around the living room, and I was on the couch unsuccessfully trying to complete a level of Candy Crush. I was kind of in my own world as Jeremy and Anderson passed the ball back and forth. Anderson missed a catch that Jeremy had tossed him and went over to pick the ball up. Still engrossed in my game, matching candies like a boss when all of a sudden – WHACK….Anderson threw a regulation baseball and hit me right on right on my forehead. Apparently, the nerf ball that Jeremy and Anderson had been tossing around fell on the ground right next to real baseball, and A picked up the baseball instead of his nerf ball.

Y’all, I’m not going to lie. It hurt, and instantly tears were pouring out of my eyes. Anderson ran into the kitchen to hide, and I was sitting on the couch trying to maintain consciousness.

A few thoughts popped into my mind during those precious seconds…

1.      Man, that hurt, and that was only thrown by a 2 year old . I cannot fathom what it felt like when Jackson got nailed in the head by baseballs thrown during his ball games this past spring. He was MUCH tougher about it than I was.
2.      You really do see stars when you are hit like that…
3.      THAT is why I never played softball. When I was in PE in 8th grade, our coach made us rotate sports around during PE time, and during our softball rotation, I was nailed in the head by a softball, and I swore to myself  that I would NEVER play again, and I didn’t. I much prefer “sports” like swimming, dancing and band, where projectile objects weren’t flying at warp speed towards my head.

So yeah, I played up my head injury and potential concussion last night and crawled into bed by 8:00. Whoever said motherhood isn’t for sissies wasn’t lying. I have the bump on my head to prove it….

War Eagle Always!!!!!

Tonight my beloved Auburn Tigers will face Florida State in a bid for the National Championship of college football. It’s been an absolutely AUmazing season; to come from a team that wasn’t even ranked in preseason polls, to finally breaking the top 25, and then moving higher and higher in the rankings to number 2. We’ve beaten our arch rival, the University of Alabama in the last second of the game, and topped Missouri in the SEC championship. No one outside of the Auburn family gave us a chance this season. No one. Our players and coaches have risen from the ashes of last season, which, lets face it, was beyond dismal finishing at 3 and 9, to playing for the BCS game tonight. No matter what happens, tonight will be the icing on the cake of this unbelievable season, and win or lose, we are still eating cake!

As a lifelong Auburn fan and alum, I will support my Tigers through the good and the bad. Tonight, I wish my team the best of luck. It will always be great to be an Auburn Tiger! Warrrrrr Eagle!!!
