Happy Birthday to Me!!

So today is my birthday. Whooo-hoooo!!! 27 years old. Thanks Mom!! So in honor of my birthday, I have decided to recognize those celebrities that share my big day. They are, in no particular order, Barbara Walters, Will Smith, Heather Locklear, married couple Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Superman himself; Christopher Reeve (does this one count anymore?). I think it does. Anyways. Today is the big day, only 3 more until I hit the big 3-0. You know, I used to think that 30 was ancient, but the closer I get to it, the younger it seems :)

2 new babies!!

Our friends from Sunday School, Kasey and T.R. Hope, and Celeste and Jason Davis, both had their babies yesterday! They were both due on September 29th, but they both ended up being born on September 24th. They even labored in rooms right next door to each other. I went by to go see them after work yesterday, and both Moms and both babies are doing wonderful. Kasey and Celeste look amazing (you can't even tell they just had babies), and their babies are just so beautiful.

Various ramblings

Hey ya'll. I hope everyone had a good weekend. Here is what is going on the fun House-O-Wades.
1. Jackson has learned to become a parrot. It is the funniest thing. If you say anything, he is trying his hardest to mimic our words. So far he has said: shoe, hi, bye, no, Mama, Dadda, da (as in dog). It has gotten to be a fun game around our house to see what all we can get him to do.

2. Tomorrow is my B'day!!!! I am going to be 27, which is a little closer to 30 than I would like, but it sure beats the alternative :)

3. We went to the Autauga County Fair this past Friday night. We had to check out the exhibits. My Mom racket up with several 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards, and even got Best-in-Show in the cross stitch section. Way to go Mom!!

4. Jackson rode the Merry-Go-Round at the fair. He loved it. I will post pictures later.

Gimme five, or maybe not...

Just a few highlights from the Wade household. Jackson learned a few new tricks, and I thought they were blog worthy. Jackson has learned how to throw a ball (left handed). Between baseball golf, and swimming, I know that sports are going to run in his blood. If this lefty thing sticks with him I am giong to need serious help when it comes time to teach him to write.

Yesterday when I got home from work, Jackson pulled a good one on me and started running through the house trying to hide from me. So I am tearing through the house trying to catch this amazingly fast toddler, playing interference with Macy who thinks that this chasing game is the best thing ever invented, when I finally caught Jackson. I grabbed him up and started saying, “You are such a silly boy.” I kid you not, he said the word “silly” about 4 times. It was so stinking cute. Of course when Jeremy got home, and I told him the big news, Jackson refused to say anything. After a few minutes he reverted back to his standards of “Mama” and “Dada”, but he is so stubborn that he will not do any of his tricks on command.

Later that night, I grabbed his hand and gave myself a high five and said, “gimme five.” I did that about 5 times and he started doing it on command. Enter Daddy into the room. I said “Jeremy, look what Jackson is doing. Jackson, gimme five.” What do you think Jackson did? You got it. NOTHING. I swear this kid is doing this on purpose. He is making me look like a fool, and of course, Jeremy thinks it's hilarious.

WAAARRRR EAGLE!

So I am about to send out much love to my future brother-in-law Adam. He scored 2 tickets to the Auburn vs. Mississippi State games tomorrow in the loveliest village in the plains. Thanks Adam! I am oh so excited about going back to Auburn. I am excited about seeing Auburn play. It has been a long time since I have gone to an AU game. But…As my favorite sister-in-law (AKA the other Amy Wade) can vouch, my favorite part of watching a football game is deciding what I am going to eat next. Somewhere out there in blogworld my Mom is sitting there nodding her head and thinking, “That’s my girl.” I live for stadium food. Is that as pathetic as I think it is. Seriously, I am already soaking up some cheese nachos and boiled peanuts. Between eating some deliciously fattening food and watching the band perform, I can’t wait!!! You see, I was in marching band for 6 years. I was on the flag line in high school and was captain my senior year. I lived and breathed for our halftime performances during football season, and I was even on the Auburn Flag Corps for 2 years back in the day. I still take it so seriously that it is hard for me to watch a halftime show without me eyeing the Flags critically. It seriously bugs Jeremy. He just doesn’t get the mentality of a former band member. Obsession. That is the only word for it.

In other news, Jackson is 13 months old today. He is growing like a weed, and has got the cutest smile I have ever seen. In case you were wondering, he is a Tiger in training. He even sports his Auburn colors each Saturday. We are definitely raising him right.

Where were you when the world stopped turning?

On September 11, 2001 I was sitting in my Children’s Media class at Auburn University. Class started at 8:00, but most of us got there around 7:30 to chitchat and compare notes on whatever assignment was due next. When class ended at 9:30 I was walking to my swimming class at the aquatics center, and a friend of mine from high school walked by me and said, “Can you believe what happened?” Of course, because I had been in class for an hour and a half, I had no clue. I will NEVER forget where I was when I heard. I was standing on the sidewalk between Jordan Hare Stadium and Haley center on Auburn’s campus. Where were you, and what were you doing when you found out that everything in the United States had changed forever?

Now, six years later, I am just sitting here thinking about how truly terrifying that day was. I made it to the aquatic center only to find out that my class had been canceled. My instructor’s sister and her sister’s fiancé both worked at the North tower. She and her family had not heard from either of them (they both were fine.) Auburn University decided not to cancel classes that day. They felt that it would send the wrong message to the terrorists. Hmm. Maybe so, but all I wanted to do was sit in my room and keep my eyes glued on the TV. When I made it to my social work class that afternoon, a classmate of mine said that her dad had been in a meeting in the north tower that morning. He got done with his meeting and walked outside the building to leave. He heard something really loud, looked up, and the plane crashed right above him.

Let’s remember the people who died six years ago today and their families. I cannot even imagine the pain they feel, especially when most of the United States has moved on, and forgotten how broken we were as a nation that day. I hope that I will never face another day like that in my lifetime, but I probably will. I just wish that people would be so patriotic and proud of our country all the time, not just when disaster strikes on our soil. God Bless America!

outside the operating room---the first surgeries of the day. The first kid leans over and asks, "What are you in here for?" The second kid says, "I'm in here to get my tonsils out and I'm a little nervous." The first kid says, "You've got nothing to worry about. I had that done when I was four. They put you to sleep, and when you wake up they give you lots of Jell-O and Ice Cream. It's a breeze." The second kid then asks, "What are you here for?" The first kid says, "A circumcision." Whoa!" the second kid replies. "Good luck buddy. I had that done when I was born. Couldn't walk for a year."

A little recap

Okay, so I am sitting here at work with not a whole lot to do, so I have decided to do a little recap of this week.

Monday: Labor Day…so, so, so nice to have a day off from work.

Tuesday: Jackson’s eye appointment and pediatrician visit for a stubborn cold. Jeremy and Jackson spent a total of 4 hours sitting in waiting rooms for Dr’s appointments. I don’t envy them, and I especially don’t envy Jeremy having to entertain Jackson for that about of time with limited resources in the diaper bag.

Wednesday: The normal , don’t have time to take a breath, work-to-church rush.

Thursday: We begin our 13 week Financial Peace University of Mr. Dave Ramsey. This class is not going to be fun, but I know that it will be great for Jeremy and I to follow his principles. So here we go with, “Live like no one else, so later you can live like no one else.” Can you just feel the excitement dripping out of this blog post? I thought so.

Friday: Just a normal work day, with no real big plans pending for this weekend, which is totally fine by me.

Underdog and more...

Hey Ya’ll. I hope that you had a wonderful Labor Day weekend. Ours was really nice. We all headed over to my parents house for ribs and then Jeremy and I went to the movies to watch Underdog. Such a cute movie, but unfortunately, it was marred by the teen couple on the 3rd row front and center that made out the entire movie. Yes. You read that right. They made out the ENTIRE movie. 2 hours. Just to clarify, I am not talking about a random kiss on the cheek here or there. No. They seriously did not come up for air for 2 hours. There were only about 8 people in the theater, and you would think that they would have the decency to at least sit in the back of the theater, but no, not this charming and well behaved young couple. They had to put on a free show for all the little six year olds in the theater. How sweet of them.
Now, I am the kind of person that once I spot something that bothers me, it REALLY bothers me. I just couldn’t stand it. I was about this close (picture my fingers about an 1/8 of an inch apart) to saying something to them. Now I realize that you are young, but come on….have some decency and respect for others. We were watching Underdog for goodness sakes. Jeremy said to the guy as we were leaving the theater, “Hey man…thanks for the show.” That is a lot better than what I was biting my tongue off to stop myself from saying. Something along the lines of, “I guess movie tickets are cheaper than a hotel room.”

Matinee movie tickets: $11.50
Popcorn and drink: $8.50
A chance to grope your significant other in public for 2 hours: Priceless

In other news…Jackson had his eye appointment today with Dr. Young. His eyes are fine. I was so happy and relieved to hear that. Dr. Young said that sometimes the bridge of a baby’s nose is a little wide, and it can give the illusion that they child has a lazy eye, when in fact, there is nothing wrong with it.
