Bite-Gate continues...

Well, I didn’t receive any phone calls at work yesterday. Yeah!!!! Little man actually made it through school without biting anyone. I was so stinking relieved. Then he bit Jeremy on the nose when they got home. Oh well. I can deal with his biting a lot better at home than I could if he were biting at school. He is going to be at school for only half the day today, so hopefully, we can make it through the day without any incidents.

Hold the presses….I just got a phone call. Ugh. He just bit Colleen over a toy, and his morning teacher was right there beside him, so thankfully, she was able to stop him before he left a mark.

With Miranda’s recommendation, we did order the book, “Teeth are Not for Biting” from amazon.com. I put a rush order on it, and it will be at our house tomorrow. Jackson loves books, so hopefully, he can grasp the concept of this book. We’ll see. I have absolutely nothing to lose from trying it (except the $8.00) that the book costs, and at this point, I will try anything.
If you have anymore words of wisdom, please share. I need all the help I can get, and I will try just about anything. Have a great Thursday!

We have a biter: Part 2

I was so anxious when I pulled up to Jackson's school yesterday afternoon. When I got to his classroom, I asked how his day was. I was told that he bit, not one...but TWO kids yesterday. He was also bitten by another kid (the boy he bit on Monday).

Hmm..What do I do? I literally wanted to throw up when his teacher told me that my precious child was acting up. I'm not stupid. I know Jackson is going to misbehave, but how do I fix this problem? Ugh...I know that Jackson is not the first biter in this center, and I am certain that he won't be the last.

That being said, I still feel almost like a pariah. Like everyone is staring at me thinking, "There's the Biter's Mom." Here is what is going through my mind:
  1. What is going on different in the morning that he is biting with his morning teacher and not his afternoon teacher?
  2. What is happening when he is biting? Is he randomly walking up to the other kids and just chomping down for now reason, or is another child trying to steal his toys?
  3. Please, oh please, don't kick him out of school. I really like this center, and I really don't want to have to find somewhere else for him to go.
  4. How can I make him stop? He was so good last night, and as stupid as it sounds, I almost wish that he would have tried to bite one of us last night, just so we could reinforce that biting is a big No-No.

The school has instructions to call me immediately if he bites today. Great. This was my brilliant idea. So now I am going to sit here on pins and needles all day waiting for the phone to ring and then what??? It's not like I can have them put Jackson on the phone and me fuss at him that way. At least I can find out the situation as soon as it happens and I won't have to dread walking into his classroom only to find out that he has chomped his way through the day.

This parenting thing is so much harder than it looks from the outside....

Attention K-Mart shoppers...we have a Biter!

When I picked Jackson up from school yesterday, I was informed by his teacher that Jackson had bitten a little boy in his class, not once, but TWICE yesterday morning. These bites were hard enough that there was still a mark on the little boys hand when I picked Jackson up at 5:00. Whoops.

Okay...so what do we do. I know that Jackson has bitten me in the past, and our usual reaction is just a very firm "NO" and sometimes he gets put in his crib for an age-appropriate timeout. He seems to think that being told "no" is funny, and he just breaks out laughing. This is not cute behavior, although when he smiles, it is sooo hard to not start laughing. I know, I know. Laughing at him just encourages him, so I generally have to bite my lip to not start. If I even crack a smile, it's over. Does this make him a miniature juvenile delinquent?

After my little talk with the teacher (she confirmed that he gets a strong "No" and timeout), he actually bit me last night, and it HURT. I am desperately needing parental advice....please leave comments about suggestions that could work. I really don't want Jackson having a file started on him at 15 months that could influence whether or not he gets into Harvard or Yale...
